Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 17, 2026 · Applies to the Unyell mobile app and unyell.app website

The short version

Unyell is anonymous by design. No account names, no profiles, no photos. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we never share what you write privately — your private notes are read by no one, not even our own admin tools. You can delete everything — account, repair history, confessions — with one action in Settings, no questions asked.

1. Who we are

Unyell ("we", "us", "the app") is a repair kit for parents: it gives you words to say to your kid after a hard moment, plus an anonymous community feed. This policy explains what data we handle when you use the app or this website, why we handle it, and the choices you have. Questions any time: [email protected].

2. What we collect — and what we deliberately don't

We never collect

  • Your name, photo, or any public profile information — the app has none of these.
  • Your child's birthdate, photo, or any document or record that identifies your child.
  • Your contacts, location, microphone, or camera data.
  • Payment card details — purchases are processed entirely by Apple or Google.

We collect

DataWhat it isWhy
Anonymous account ID A random identifier created on first launch. No email, password, or sign-up required. To keep your data together across app sessions and sync it between the app and our servers.
Parenting context Your role (mom / dad / parent), your kids' age ranges (e.g. "3–5 y"), and your answers to the onboarding questions (when blowups happen, what sets them off, what fuels them, what you want to change). Answers are synced to our servers only after you unlock the app. To pick repair scripts that fit your kid's age, personalize your plan, and show the anonymous badge (e.g. "mom of a 2yo") if you post.
Repair history Which situation you picked, the age range, timestamps, and any private notes you add. To show your repair log and history. Private notes are visible only to you and are never published or used for anything else.
Confessions Short anonymous posts you choose to share to the community feed, and hugs/reports you give. To run the community feed. Posts are public within the app but carry no identity beyond the role/age badge.
Purchase status Whether you have an active subscription, plan type, and expiry — from Apple/Google via our subscription processor. To unlock what you paid for (on this device and after a restore) and provide support. We never see your payment details.
Usage analytics In-app events (e.g. "repair completed"), device type, OS version, and app version. Not tied to your real identity. To understand what helps parents and what doesn't, fix crashes, and improve the app.
Push token A device token, only if you turn notifications on. To send the notifications you asked for (hug alerts, daily affirmation, repair reminders). You can turn each type off in Settings.
Email (optional) Only if you join the website waitlist, request the free repair script on the website, or choose "Save my history" in the app. Waitlist: one launch announcement. Free script: a copy of the script and, at most, an occasional note about the app. Save my history: recovering your data on a new device. These are the only places email exists in our system.

3. How we use your data

  • To run the product: pick age-appropriate scripts, keep your history, show the feed, deliver notifications you opted into.
  • To keep the community safe: every confession is checked by an automated moderation system (including an AI classifier) and, where needed, by a human moderator before or after it appears in the feed. Content that suggests someone may be at risk triggers an in-app card with support resources — never a report to anyone.
  • To improve the app: aggregated, pseudonymous analytics. We look at patterns, not people.
  • To provide support: if you email us, we use your message and email to respond.

We do not use your data for advertising, we do not sell it or share it for "cross-context behavioral advertising", and we do not use the content of your private notes or confessions to train AI models — nor does our AI provider.

4. Who processes data for us

We use a small number of service providers ("processors") that handle data on our behalf, under contracts that require them to protect it and forbid them from using it for their own purposes:

  • Supabase — anonymous authentication and database hosting.
  • RevenueCat — subscription status management (works with Apple App Store and Google Play billing).
  • PostHog — product analytics.
  • Expo — push notification delivery.
  • Anthropic — automated safety classification of confession text. Text is processed with zero data retention: Anthropic does not store it and does not use it to train models.

Apple and Google process your payment when you subscribe, under their own privacy policies. Beyond these providers, we share data only if the law genuinely requires it, or to protect someone's life or safety.

5. How long we keep data, and how to delete it

  • Delete everything, any time: Settings → "Delete my data" permanently deletes your account, repair history, notes, onboarding answers, confessions, hugs, and push token from our servers. This is immediate and irreversible.
  • Confessions you delete individually are removed from the feed immediately.
  • Waitlist emails are deleted after the launch announcement, or immediately on request.
  • Analytics are retained in pseudonymous form and deleted or aggregated within 24 months.
  • If you uninstall the app without linking an email, your anonymous account becomes unreachable and is deleted from our servers after 12 months of inactivity.

You can also revoke consents in place: turn off notifications in Settings or your device settings, and manage analytics preferences in Settings → Privacy.

6. Children

Unyell is made for parents and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). The child-related data in the app is limited to an age range you, the parent, select. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live (including the EU/EEA and UK under GDPR, and California under CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You will never be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

Most of this you can do yourself: everything we hold is deletable via Settings → "Delete my data". For anything else, email [email protected] — we respond within 30 days. Because accounts are anonymous, we may ask you to make the request from inside the app so we can verify it's really your account. EU/EEA and UK residents may also lodge a complaint with their local supervisory authority. California residents: we do not "sell" or "share" personal information as defined by the CPRA, and we have not done so in the preceding 12 months.

8. Security

Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to production data is restricted to the minimum necessary and protected by authentication. No system is perfectly secure, but the most sensitive things — your private notes, your history — are protected by the same design choice that protects your identity: we simply don't know who you are.

9. International transfers

Our servers and providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where data of EU/EEA or UK residents is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

10. Not a medical service

Unyell is not a medical, mental-health, or therapy service, and nothing in the app is medical advice. Any data you enter is not health data of record. If things feel bigger than a bad moment: Childhelp National Parent Hotline 1-800-4-A-CHILD, Crisis Text Line — text HOME to 741741, or your local emergency number.

11. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll show a notice in the app and update the effective date above before the change takes effect. Continued use after the effective date means the updated policy applies.

12. Contact

[email protected] — a human reads it.
